It's Big, It's Bright, It's Coming Lagniappe Night!

November 13, 2017

You are invited to brighten your holidays in downtown Rochester with The Big, Bright Light Show and Lagniappe! The buildings in Downtown Rochester will be covered in more than 1 million points of glimmering holiday light which debut on Monday, November 20 at 7:00 pm during the 45th Annual Lagniappe celebration and will be illuminated every night from 5:00 pm to midnight through Jan. 8, 2018, plus every Friday, Saturday & Sunday in January.

Join the merchants of downtown Rochester on Monday, November 20 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm when they offer their customers Lagniappe (Creole for “a little something extra”) in appreciation for their support throughout the year.

The Rochester Downtown Development Authority (DDA) also will offer some Lagniappe with the debut of The Big, Bright Light Show, presented by Fox Automotive. The program will begin at 6:45 pm on E. Fourth Street with help from the Mayor, Channel 7’s Dave LewAllen and a special appearance by the man in red, Santa Claus himself, sponsored by Somerset Lending Corp. & Andrews Realty Group. The lights will officially light-up downtown Rochester at 7:00 pm. Make sure to bring your cameras because kids will then have the opportunity to share their Christmas lists with Santa from 7:15 – 9:00 pm.

In addition, free horse-drawn carriage rides, sponsored by Retro Fitness Rochester will be available at E. Third and Walnut Street. The rides will run from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. There will be a number of free holiday music performances to help visitors get into the holiday spirit; the Meadow Brook Carolers, Jennifer Kincer & Friends and more!

Following Lagniappe, The Big, Bright Light Show will run nightly from 5:00 pm – midnight through Jan. 7, 2018. After January 7, The Big, Bright Light Show will be aglow every Friday, Saturday & Sunday in January through the Fire & Ice Festival. Also, don’t forget Small Business Saturday on November 25 and the Kris Kringle Market, an open-air holiday market, Dec. 1 – 2.

The Big, Bright Light Show, a holiday display unlike any in the Midwest, is entering its twelfth season. The buildings of Main Street will be covered in “big, bright” lights beginning at the South Bridge and extending to University Drive. Additionally, buildings on Fourth Street from Walnut to Water Street will be covered.

“The Big, Bright Light Show is holiday magic personified; it is something you have to see to believe,” stated Kristi Trevarrow, Executive Director of the Rochester Downtown Development Authority. “This holiday tradition is one of a kind, and the perfect complement to the one-of-a-kind shopping experience one will find in Downtown Rochester.”
