When my daughter was a toddler, I noticed she would stop playing and listen anytime she heard kids’ songs in the car, at home, or at her favorite play places. She’d bop around and sing to herself as part of her bedtime routine, and she’d “perform” new songs she learned at preschool. She grew to love Disney movies, singing along with all of the songs. Knowing the benefits of music lessons for children, like higher academic achievement, enhanced memory, and heightened critical thinking skills, we started with piano. She took lessons for a year, but it was always a struggle getting her to sit down and practice. She looked at the lessons as a chore and didn’t seem like she was enjoying the music in the same way.
I thought about singing lessons, but I worried about finding a teacher that would be technique-based versus only performance-based because I had read about problems that could occur for children singing incorrectly while their voices were still changing and developing. After much research, I found Born 2 Sing Kids in Rochester Hills, and I’m so glad we did! My daughter has been taking lessons for a few months now, and along with better technique, she also has greater confidence and even has fun practicing!
Born 2 Sing Kids is a boutique studio program designed to teach and nurture the love of singing for young kids. Young student expert Dana Lentini utilizes a technique-based approach rooted in the belief that singing can be learned and enjoyed by all. She teaches singers ages 5 and older in a positive, nurturing way, where they can learn to grow and express their voices. What I love most is the way Dana evaluated my daughter’s voice and goals as an individual, while making the learning fun and the techniques easy for my 9-year old to understand.
Born 2 Sing Kids offers both individual and small group lessons in Rochester Hills.
