We will all be looking for ways to get out of the house this winter! So Macaroni KID Lake Orion - Rochester Hills - Oxford has put together a list to help you find fun things to do this winter with your family during the winter months.









Outdoor Winter Fun 

Fresh air is good for the soul - not to mention it helps to get the wiggles out of the kids. Here are some fun local places with activities to get you moving this winter: 

Addison Oaks County Park Fat Tire Biking
1480 West Romeo Road
Leonard, MI 48367

Details: Addison Oaks County Park is open year-round 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. The park offers a groomed 5 and a half mile trail perfect for fat tire biking. No rentals available.

Bear Creek Nature Park Ice Skating
740 West Snell Road
Rochester, MI  48306

Details: Open 10am to 5pm daily, conditions permitting. No rentals available; bring your own skates. Always check the hotline first to confirm open/close status: (248) 651-4440, ext 289

Bloomer Park Sledding Hill Rochester Hills

Details: Open 8am to dusk. Bloomer Park features 3 sledding runs on a large hill, conditions permitting.

Borden Park Sled Hill Rochester Hills

Details: Open 8am to dusk. Borden Park offers a smaller hill perfect for families with small children.

Civic Center Ice Rink

Orion Township, MI 48360

Details: Open daily, weather permitting. Please respect the rules sign and the closed for maintenance signs, as they are for your safety. Not shown: 2 hockey goals built to USA Pond Hockey Specs, feel free to use them safely.

Depot Park Ice Rink
375 Depot Road
Clarkston, MI 48346  

Details: Open daily, weather permitting. The city thanks the Clarkston Area Optimists, the Clarkston Schools Construction Tech Program and their own DPW team for once again installing the skating rink at Depot Park. Overhead lighting in place to facilitate nighttime skating.

Independence Oaks Ice Skating, Hiking, or Cross Country Skiing 
9501 Sashabaw Road
Clarkston, MI 48348 

Details: Independence Oaks is the largest Oakland County Park at 1,286 acres. Open daily from 8am until one-half-hour before sunset. Recreation amenities include over 12 miles of natural and paved trails. Cross-country ski equipment is available for rent, depending on staff availability and amount of snow. Ice skating permitted when conditions are good. Make sure to bring your own skates; they don't offer skate rentals. Park office hours: 9am. - 4pm Monday-Friday.

Innovation Hills Ice Skating

Details: From 10am to 5:30pm, the upper pond is open daily for ice skating. Bring your own skates as no rentals are available.

Jesse Decker Park Sledding Hill

Details: This is a fun sledding hill for the whole family to enjoy.

Lost Lake Nature Park Sled Hill
846 Lost Lake Trail
Oakland Township, MI 48363 

Details: Call (248) 651-4440, ext. 299 to confirm sledding hill is open. Conditions permitting, the sledding hill is open daily from 10am to 5pm. On Wednesdays and Saturdays the hill is open from 10am to 9pm. The warming shelter is open Wednesdays from 5pm to 9pm, Saturdays from 10am to 9pm, and Sundays from 10am to 5pm. There must be 4 inches of packed snow on frozen ground for hill to be open.

Mt Holly Ski & Snowboard Resort

Details: Rentals and lessons available. Lift tickets required. Nestled in Groveland Township near Holly, Michigan, Mt Holly Ski & Snowboard resort offers 20 runs from beginner to advanced and has the only High-Speed chair lift in Southeast Michigan.

Orion Oaks County Park Hiking or Cross Country Skiing 
2301 W Clarkston Road
Lake Orion, MI 48360

Details: The park is open approximately 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. Park is open year-round. Orion Oaks’ 916 acres offers 10 miles of hiking and mountain bike trails, geocaching, and fishing on Lake Sixteen, with a wheelchair accessible fishing pier off Joslyn Road. They do not rent cross country skis, but if you have your own equipment, this is an awesome place to explore.

Pine Knob Ski & Snowboard Resort

Details: Rentals and lessons available. Lift tickets required. Whether you are a beginner or expert, family or individual, Pine Knob is a great place for you to enjoy the slopes this season!

Seymour Lake Park Oxford Sledding Hill and Ice Rink

Details: Open dawn to dusk year round. This 132-acre park features the “Red Flyer Run” sledding hill and an ice skating rink, conditions permitting.

Spencer Park Ice Skating, Hiking, and Cross Country Skiing 
3701 John R Road
Rochester Hills, MI 48307

Details: Open 10am to dusk. Spencer Park offers ice skating and ice fishing when conditions comply. They do not rent any equipment. On busy winter days, they charge $5 admission to residents and $10 non-residents. We recommend calling ahead to inquire about conditions.

Stony Lake Township Park Oxford Ice Skating and Ice Fishing

Details: Open dawn to dusk year round. The Oxford Township Parks and Recreation Department does not monitor ice conditions or thickness. Ice fishing and skating is done at own risk! Sledding is prohibited.

Indoor Winter Fun

Sometimes you want to get out of the house, but the weather outside is not ideal! Here are some ideas for local indoor winter fun:

This is a great destination for some indoor winter family fun!
